The Red Zone examines the Anthropocene through the lenses of crisis and accumulation. It explores environmental destruction from two perspectives: one in which resource extraction, such as deforestation, is a means of survival, and another where it is driven by profit. While resource exploitation varies based on country, social class, and living conditions, it ultimately falls under the broader concept of crisis when considering its impact on the Anthropocene.
The cyclical loop of production and consumption inevitably leads to accumulation. Whether through planned obsolescence or factory labor, these processes prioritize capital gains over environmental well-being, deepening the crisis.
The title The Red Zone emerged from reflections on the concept of the Golden Spike, a marker of historical shifts. Additionally, it draws inspiration from Arenas Alberto's article Pandemics, Capitalism, and an Ecosocialist Pedagogy, which examines how capitalism has contributed to the rise of zoonotic diseases like COVID-19. The title conveys a sense of urgency, fear, and unease, evoking the precarious state of our current era.
